Cloacina is a minor Roman deity derived from Etruscan tradition. She is a guardian of the Cloaca Maxima, Rome's great sewer, a guarantor of purity and fidelity, and is sometimes seen as an aspect of Venus.

We are interested in creating an alternative municipal waste disposal system that replaces mechanical power and centralization with composting and information. We appeal to Cloacina for her guidance, watchfulness, and namesake. In 2010 we prototyped a networked system that will do her work in the world, bringing human talent and electronic systems together to guide and watch over the biological processes that transform waste.
